

Leonard Lehrer is a painter and printmaker whose work has been seen internationally for more than three decades. He has had forty-seven solo exhibitions in the United States, Germany, Austria, Spain and Italy. He has had five one-person museum exhibitions. Museums that house examples of his work include the Museum of Modern Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; the National Gallery of Art and the Library of Congress, Washington, DC; the Philadelphia Museum of Art; The Bibliothèque Nationale de France, Paris; The Sprengel Museum of Art in Hannover, Germany; and some one hundred other public collections. His work is cited in various books, anthologies and catalogues. He has also participated in national and international symposia including the First International Conference of Fulbright Scholars, Delphi, Greece, 2000 and presented the keynote address at Fulbright’s International meeting in Marrakesh, Morocco in 2007. He served as Chair of the Art Department at the University of New Mexico; is the former Director of the School of Art, Arizona State University, and Chair, Department of Art and Art Professions, New York University (which honored him with Professor Emeritus in Art status when he left NYU), and former Dean, School of Fine and Performing Arts, Columbia College Chicago. He now serves as Visiting Professor and Director of the new Printmaking Convergence Program at the University of Texas, Austin. Lehrer also serves as a Trustee of the International Print Center New York (IPCNY) – of which he is a founding Trustee, Trustee of apexart, NYC, and served as Trustee of the International Centre for Culture and Management (ICCM), Salzburg, Austria. He is the recipient of numerous awards including the Grand Prize of the Heitland Foundation, Celle, Germany; Gold Medal Achievement Award by the National Society of Arts and Letters; a grant from the United States Information Agency to work with the University of the Andes’ Art department in the development of its graduate programs in the arts, Bogota, Colombia, et al; and two Fulbright Senior Scholar Program Grants to Greece, both in printmaking. Lehrer served as Chair of the College Board’s National Task Force on Arts in Education in the United States and serves as Chair of The Arts Task Force for the Fulbright Association. He is the recipient of the Silver Alumni Award of the University of the Arts and the renowned Southern Graphics Council International’s Lifetime Achievement Award.

WOMEN PRINTMAKERS OF AUSTIN PRESENTS

LIVE OAK ART CENTER
The Women Printmakers of Austin present a juried art exhibition of print work by national and international artists at the Live Oak Art Center in Columbus, Texas, July 7th to August 18th, 2012. WPA is devoted to fostering a deeper understanding of the current worldwide trends in printmaking. This exhibition is open to all artists in any print media. Columbus is at the nexus, or crossroads, between the major Texas cultural centers of Austin, Houston, and San Antonio.
Although it is a small town (population: 3,916), Columbus has positioned itself as a supporter of cutting edge cultural talent. The WPA is proud to be a participant in this cultural nexus.
JURORS
Jean Gumpper
Jean is a Visiting Professor in the art department at Colorado College in Colorado Springs. Ebo Gallery in New York, William Havu Gallery in Denver, Hudson Gallery in Sylvania, Ohio, Open Studio in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, and Thomassen Gallery in Gothenburg, Sweden, represent her work. Her prints are in the collections of The Art Bank at the Department of State, Washington, D.C., Cork Printmakers Special Collection, Ireland; Cranbrook Institute of Arts, Bloomfield Hills, MI; Flint Institute of Arts, Flint, Michigan; Kirkland Museum of Art, Denver, CO; Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado; Springfield Art Museum, MO; and the Turku Art Museum, Finland, as well as private and corporate collections in the United States, Canada, Finland, Japan, Nepal and Sweden. Jean taught international print workshops at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden, in 2008 and 2009 and, in April 2011, she completed a month long residency at the Goldwell Museum in Rhyolite, Nevada. She received a Visual Artist Fellowship award from the Colorado Council on the Arts in 2000.
Margie Simpson
Margaret Simpson established Slugfest in the summer of 1996. Margaret Simpson has an MFA in Printmaking from Massachusetts College of Art. She teaches lithography at the University of Texas in Austin. She has received further training in lithography from the Tamarind Institute and in intaglio from Rutgers University and Crown Point Press.
AWARDS
The cash awards will be as follows: $300 First Place, $200 Second Place, $100 Third Place chosen by the juror.
ELIGIBILITY
The competition is open to artists working in all printmaking media, 2D and 3D. Wall mounted works and sculptural work must fit through a standard height, 36"wide entry door. All work must be original, no reproductions, giclees, or posters. Please do not submit works that hang from the ceiling, or by large bolts, or weigh more than 100 pounds.
EXHIBITION AGREEMENT, REPRODUCTION & SALES
The juror reserves the right to exclude any entry deemed too fragile for display, too cumbersome to handle, or not accurately represented by slide. Permission to reproduce artwork for publicity is considered granted unless otherwise stated in writing by the artist. Sales from the exhibition will be encouraged. Checks for sales will be made out to the artists. There will be a 40% commission on any sales made during the exhibition (30% to Live Oak Center, 10% to WPA, 60% to artists). All work submitted must be for sale. Submission of entries constitutes agreement to the considerations set forth above.

RULES
The art work will be judged from digital images, so they must be good representations of the works. The photos of accepted work may be used for publicity.
Art work must be titled and must be for sale, at a reasonable price.
Art must be ready to hang, with sturdy hangers on the back, and look professional.
Artist must submit one page with resume and artist statement (one page only, if longer only the first page will be presented)
Artist may submit one to four artworks that must be available for sale at the exhibition. Accepted work can be hand delivered or shipped, shipped work must include prepaid return label.
Submission of entries constitutes agreement to these conditions.
SHIPMENT, RETURN & LIABILITY
Delivery instructions will accompany notification of acceptance. All art must be shipped in reusable containers and delivered by hand or commercial carrier. Artwork that is shipped must have a prepaid return UPS or FEDEX label included.
We will not accept checks for return shipping postage. The Live Oak Art Center will not be responsible for
damage to, loss or deterioration of any work while in transit. Upon receipt LOAC will insure works while in the building until August 18, 2012.

Label files by last name and entry number (Smith_1). Dimensions should be approximately 1920 pixels.
High resolution, good quality digital photographs of 300 DPI will be required for inclusion in the catalog.
