Live Oak Art Center 2010 Juried Show

Exhibition will be held at the Live Oak Art Center in Columbus, Texas from May 8thto July 3, 2010.

Artist should pay attention to delivery dates. Prizes will be announced at the opening reception, so make plans to attend.

Open to artists living within 150 miles of Columbus; including Austin, Houston and San Antonio. Entries may be any medium, including painting, photography, sculpture, clay and works on paper.

The juror is Jim Edwards, serves as the Gallery Director/Curator for Houston Baptist University’s Art Gallery as well as Associate Professor in HBU’s School of Art.

The cash awards will be as follows: $1000 First Place, $500 Second Place, $250 Third Place.

This exhibit is sponsored in part by The city of Columbus Hot Funds and a grant from the Texas Commission on the Arts.

THE LIVE OAK ART CENTER 2010 ANNUAL IS A JURIED COMPETITION THAT OFFERS HIGH PUBLIC VISIBILITY IN CENTRAL TEXAS AND A CHANCE TO SHARE IN MORE THAN $1750 IN CASH AWARDS.

JUROR : Jim Edwards
serves as the Gallery Director/Curator for Houston Baptist University’s Art Gallery as well as Associate Professor in HBU’s School of Art. He graduated with BFA and MFA degrees from San Francisco Art Institute and is a Rockefeller Fellow in Museum Education and Communities Studies from the Fine Arts Museum in San Francisco. Considered an authority on modern and contemporary art in the American West, Edwards has spent 30 years as a Curator and Director, working at various museums, including Alaska State Museum, Art Museum of South Texas, San Antonio Museum of Art and the Salt Lake Art Center. His Major Exhibitions include About Face for the Art Museum of South Texas, 1984, Artists Responses to Architecture, for the Nave Museum, Victoria, Texas, 1986; The Poetic Object, for the San Antonio Museum of Art, 1990; Committed to Abstraction: Ten in Texas, for the Austin Museum of Art, 1997; and The Daily News, 2005 and SF Recycled, 2007 for the Salt Lake Art Center. He co-curated with David Brauer, Exhibition Pop Art: U.S./U.K. Connections, 1956-1966 at Houston’s Menil Collection in 2001. Additionally, Edwards has an extensive record of publishing, including essays in exhibition books and catalogues for museums and galleried throughout the United States.

The juror reserves the right to exclude any entry deemed too fragile for
display, too cumbersome to handle, or not accurately represented by
the slide. Permission to reproduce artwork for publicity is considered
granted unless otherwise stated in writing by the artist. Sales from the
exhibition will be encouraged, unless otherwise specified by the artist.
Checks for sales will be made out to the artist. LOAC is a non-profit
organization and requests 30% of the sales price be made as a tax
deductible donation. Final decision for inclusion in the LOAC Annual
Juried Exhibition will be made by the juror. Submission of entries
constitutes agreement to the conditions set forth above.

Delivery instructions will accompany notification of acceptance. All art
must be shipped in reusable containers and delivered by hand or
commercial carrier. Artwork that is shipped must have prepaid return
postage label included. The Live Oak Art Center will not be responsible
for damage to, loss or deterioration of any work while in transit. Upon
receipt LOAC will insureworks while in the building until July 10, 2010.

The Live Oak Art Center is located just off the town square in historic Columbus, Texas, located at IH-
10 and Hwy 71 in central Texas.With 80 historical markers, beautifully restored homes, centuries old Live Oaks, and a past as colorful as the wildflowers lining the roadway.
